Update after 1st Class Quarterfinals
After a weekend of great scoring, the draws for the Matchplay phase, starting on Monday, have been settled.
The draw is shown on the image
With the course in fantastic condition, we can look forward to a week of great golf. Come out and show your support!
We’ll keep you posted with results throughout the week.
Mark McAllister holed in one at the 16th in yesterday’s Midweek Sweep, which in itself is a great achievement!
However, that’s not the full story – the ace wasn’t quite textbook – rumour has it that the ball made the regulation drop via the trees…
However, as we all know, there are no pictures on a scorecard, so the number “1” went in the little box beside hole 16, although we believe Mark was so excited he had some difficulty in getting the input to the computer correct.
Anyway, congratulations Mark.
A huge thank you to all who supported our Ladies Open Tri-Am yesterday. It was a great day, we were so very lucky with the weather, with only a little rain falling and no lightning, unlike others fairly close to our own location. The winners are on the image above
Positive comments about the course were in abundance. So much so that many (hopefully all) participants are planning to return for our Mixed Open on 19th August and/or Ladies Greensome (Pink Day) Breast Cancer Charity event on 7th October. Bookings can be made by following the link
We look forward to welcoming all once again later in the year. In the meantime we wish everyone who participated an enjoyable and successful golfing season.
Please see the featured image for the full result from Sunday’s Cameron Bowl Open Competition.
Congratulations to all winners, especially Stuart McLaren of Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, who took top honours with a scratch 63.
Prizewinning away players’ vouchers have been despatched and members’ Vouchers are in the Professional’s shop.
2 holes in one in a week at Uphall Golf Club! Whilst achieving a hole in one is the ultimate goal for any golfer, some are more rewarding than others.
Firstly, congratulations to Emma Cassidy who recorded a hole in one at the 3rd on Ladies Opening Day. Emma went on to win the competition with a net 69 and her handicap reduction now means that she plays in the Silver Division.
As the hole in one was in an official competition played from medal tees, Emma receives a limited edition Hugo Boss watch from HowDidIDo, a commemorative bag tag, plus, of course, £75 from the personal insurance arrangement towards her bar bill. Here’s Emma with her prizes.
Hot on the heels of Emma’s achievement, Brian Leisk holed a 7 iron in a bounce game the following week at the 15th. Unlike Emma, Brian got none of the goodies, just congratulations from his playing partners and the bill for breakfast….
Well done to Emma and Brian.
Due to the slow thaw and heavy rain on Saturday, it was nip and tuck whether the 5th Winter Stableford Competition would go ahead, but after some sterling work by the greens team, the competition got the green light.
With a fine score of 41 points, Pete MacMillan took the honours and a voucher for £200! That’ll go a long way to covering that investment in the new Callaway Rogue driver he bought from Gordon.
The full list of prizewinners is below – vouchers are available for collection in the pro shop for members and visitor’s will be posted today.
Thanks to everyone who played, not only yesterday, but across the 5 events. We feel that this series of competitions has been a great success, with tremendous turnouts from members and visitors. We’ll reflect on the format and timing and see how best to develop this initiative going forward.
As previously advised and those of you who were at the AGM will have heard, Jim Saunders, is now in post as the Club’s new Head Greenkeeper. As we have done in previous years, we supplement the greenkeeping team through the spring, summer and autumn with seasonal resource.
The attached job advertisement sets out what we’re looking for.
If you would like to apply or perhaps know someone who might be interested, please get in touch with Gordon Law, Club Captain in the first instance.
23 of our Junior Section (supervised by several members) braved Sunday’s freezing cold conditions to take part in an on course competition event on Sunday, many of them for the first time.
With the junior coaching program going strong, the focus this year is to progress as many of the youngsters as possible to the point that they have handicaps, which will allow them to play competitive golf and also help them measure their progress over time.
Given the weather, the turnout of 23 players was fantastic. .
Players were categorised to take part in either 4 hole, 7 hole or 14 hole events based on their current playing ability and a maximum 10 strokes per hole was set to ensure a decent pace of play.
A presentation was held in the clubhouse after the event where Club Captain, Gordon Law presented modest prizes to all winners and competitors.
4 hole competition – Callum Murphy / 27 strokes.
7 hole competition – Jordan Patterson won the 7 hole medal with a score of 44 gross, James Halliday was runner up with 47 gross.
14 hole competition – Sean Byron / 57 strokes (with a great gross score of 2 over par).
Well done to everyone who played and soldiered on despite the freezing conditions. Spirits were high and we hope this event will encourage the youngsters to get out on the course and play during the holidays. Despite the recent dreadful weather the course was in great condition.
Thanks to Gordon and all the folks who helped with on course supervision, I hope you have all thawed out by now – don’t worry the weather will improve!
|Please find attached the result from Saturday’s Winter Open, in spite of the poor weather early on we had 103 players on the day including 49 visitors; 5 home players & 3 visitors took the prize vouchers with some impressive scoring on show in tough conditions. Vouchers for home players are now available for collection and visiting players’ vouchers will be posted to their clubs this evening.
Booking is now open for the final Winter Stableford Open, as is booking for all of our Open Competitions at:
