News from around the Club – 1 March 2024

As we start to build momentum towards the start of the main golfing season, the Committee wishes to commence with a regular Blog summarising developments with the build of our new Clubhouse as well as notable things happening at the Club.

Following the recent AGM, there are some new faces on the Club Committee with Peter MacMillan elected to the role of Club Captain. Congratulations Peter.

Graeme Stevenson has confirmed he will continue in the role of Match Secretary for a further 1 year to allow for a suitable handover to take place ahead of next season.

Recent requests for support from the Committee to the membership has resulted in a much-improved picture with a wide range of expertise on hand to steer the Club forward in the years ahead.

More news on roles and responsibilities to follow as the new Committee members pick some initiatives up.

Gordon Law has announced after 33 seasons that he will be stepping down from an official role at the Golf Club, but remains at the core of the Clubhouse Project and we look forward to having the chance to show our appreciation to Gordon once the new Clubhouse is up and running. 33 years is a long shift – some of the Committee members weren’t born when he started all these years ago!!

As for the main event in terms of ongoings at the Club, the Clubhouse Project, substantial progress has been made since the turn of the year with the bulk of the permanent external structure in place, with temporary protection in place elsewhere, which will allow certain internal works to progress. We have recently finalised the electrical works package, with Mechanical and Plumbing to follow soon thereafter.

Final discussions are well underway with the interior designers on finishes and furnishings and these will be shared with members once agreed.

The next visible progress will be construction/installation of the steps to the building and the glazing, all of which we expect to be done by early/mid-April.

We now have a view of what the playing Calendar looks like for the season ahead with competitions and other event/fixtures published on the BRS App. Fixture books will be ready in a few weeks and we will let you know when these can be picked up.

Our match-play competitions have also been opened up for entries, please ensure any email entries submitted to the Match Secretary include your preferred contact number to allow for ties to be arranged.

Look out for news of the “Member get Member” incentives which will be sent out early next week – every new member is good news and if you are named on the application, there’s some cash coming your way!

We’re open to suggestions as to what you’d like to hear from us about, so just email the Club with ideas and we’ll try to include stuff you want.

Next time round we’ll have some content from Robert Kelly, Course Manager as the Greens Team get ready for the new season.
